On June 24th, Beijing time, the NBA crowned its seventh champion in seven years. However, the Oklahoma City Thunder possess all the elements for sustained success: an MVP in their twenties at the peak of his career, a young supporting cast, and one of the most respected general managers in the league. Taking these factors into account, the Thunder emerge as the top favorites for next season's title. Here are the championship odds for all 30 teams next season—
Positions 1-15: 1. Thunder (+240), 2. Cavaliers and Rockets (+800), 4. Knicks (+900), 5. Magic, Lakers, Timberwolves (+1400), 8. Nuggets (+1600), 9. Celtics (+1800), 10. Warriors and Spurs (+2500), 12. Mavericks, 76ers, Clippers (+3500), 15. Pacers (+4000)
Positions 16 and beyond: 16. Pistons and Bucks (+6600), 18. Grizzlies (+12500), 19. Hawks, Heat, Raptors, Pelicans (+25000), 23. Kings (+30000), 24. Nets, Bulls, Suns, Trail Blazers (+50000), 28. Hornets, Wizards, Jazz (+100000)
After defeating the Pacers in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, the Thunder have become the frontrunners for the 2026 championship with odds of +240.
The Rockets follow closely with odds of +800. They acquired Kevin Durant through a trade, which could be the biggest move of the NBA offseason. Durant is expected to join a core group that includes Sengun, VanVleet, Amen Thompson, and Jabari Smith, returning to Texas where he played in college.
Sengun, Thompson, and Smith are all just 22 years old and still have room for growth, while both VanVleet and Durant have won NBA championships. Durant can bring more experience to this relatively young team from last season. In the 2024-25 season, the Rockets won 52 regular-season games, becoming the second seed in the West, but were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Warriors.
The Cavaliers, after winning 64 games in the regular season, have every reason to believe they will be contenders next season, especially since stars from the two top teams in the East will be missing significant time during the season, placing them tied for second in odds with the Rockets.
The Lakers, featuring both Doncic and LeBron James, are also viewed favorably, as they are expected to add a starting-caliber center during the offseason, currently tying with the Magic and Timberwolves for fifth place.
Although the Pacers (+4000) are just a half-game away from the championship, their breakout star Haliburton from the 2025 playoffs is expected to miss next season after suffering a serious injury in Game 7.
