At 7:30 AM Beijing time on June 21, the WNBA regular season will continue, with the Dallas Wings facing the Connecticut Sun away, striving for their first two consecutive wins of the season. Chinese player Li Yueru will play her second game with the Wings, having previously debuted with 13 minutes on the court, scoring 2 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists.
So far this season, Li Yueru has participated in 10 games, averaging 13 minutes on the court, contributing 2.7 points and 1.6 rebounds. In her first game with the Wings, she scored her team's first basket with a hook shot, achieving a plus-minus of +9. After the game, Li Yueru expressed that she is still working to understand her new teammates and is confident in continuing to improve and help the team win.
Wings head coach Kirkland praised Li Yueru's contributions, stating that her speed is much faster than expected, and her presence on the court is very strong.
The Wings faced the Sun earlier this year, winning 109-87 on May 28 in an away game, marking their first victory of the season.
Currently, the Wings have a record of 2 wins and 11 losses, remaining at the bottom of the league. Rookie Pei Qi, despite missing all five of her three-point attempts in the last game against the Valkyries, still contributed 20 points, while Ogunbowale scored 19 points, leading the Wings to an 80-71 victory over the Valkyries.
“This is entirely the result of teamwork,” Pei Qi said after the game. “Every player who stepped on the court made an impact in some way and contributed to the victory, so it's great to harness the team's strength like this.”
The Wings ended their seven-game losing streak, marking their first home win of the season. “Winning feels great, and we must learn how to win,” said head coach Kirkland. “In the last five minutes, we showed a different resilience—we actively sought the victory and achieved it.”
The Sun are currently on a four-game losing streak, with a record of 2 wins and 10 losses, only better than the Wings. In their last game, they lost 75-83 to the Mercury. This defeat also tied the Sun for the worst 12-game start in franchise history—they were also 2 wins and 10 losses at the start of the 2016 season.
