The Chicago Cubs acquired right-hand shooter Brasier from the Los Angeles Dodgers trade to bolster the bullshed

On Tuesday night, the Cubs announced a trade from the Dodgers for right-hand backup pitcher Ryan Brasier and cash compensation in exchange for a future named player or cash. To free up space on the 40-man roster, the Cubs designated left pitcher Rob Zastryzny.

Brashir, 37, was designated for a transfer last week after the Dodgers signed Kirby Yates, but he has been an efficient pitcher in recent years when healthy. He joined the Dodgers in June 2023 after being released by the Red Sox and posted a 0.70 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 38.2 innings.

Brashir had a slightly underwhelming season last season, with a 3.54 ERA on 28 innings and was out for more than three months with a right calf strain. However, his catch rate (4.5%) is a career-low and his chase rate (34.8%) is well above the league average (28.5%).

Brashiel was a sixth-round pick in the 2007 Angels and has a career ERA of 3.85 over 285.1 innings pitched. He gained extensive playoff experience during his six-year tenure with the Red Sox and won two World Series titles with the team.

Brashill, who is about to enter his ninth season in the major leagues, is the latest major addition to the Cubs' rebuilding of the bullpen. Previously, the team also signed free agent Caleb Thielbar and acquired Eli Morgan and Ryan Pressly in a trade.
