What you need to know for MLB Spring Training in 2025

As teams prepare to travel to Arizona and Florida to prepare for the 2025 season, here's everything you need to know about spring training, including training and game start dates for all 30 teams.

Where is the spring training held?
The spring practice pitches for the 30 major league teams are evenly split between Arizona and Florida. Teams in Arizona compete in the Cactus League, with all teams concentrated in the area around Phoenix. Florida's teams compete in the Grapefruit League, which is spread across the state's West Coast and others on the East Coast.

A total of 23 different courses in the two states host spring training, with seven of them shared by two teams.

Cactus League Team: Angels, Athletics, Brewers, Cubs, Rattlesnakes, Dodgers, Giants, Guardians, Mariners, Padres, Rangers, Redskins, Loki, Royals, White Sox

Grapefruit League Team: Astros, Blue Jays, Warriors, Cardinals, Marlins, Mets, Nationals, Orioles, Phillies and Phillies , Buccaneers, Rays, Red Sox, Tigers, Twins, Yankees

When does the team report for spring training?
The phrase "pitchers and catchers report for duty" brings a lot of excitement every year because it means that baseball is coming back. While some players may train informally at the team's spring training base, each team has two official check-in dates: one for pitchers and catchers, who need more time to prepare for the season; The other is usually five to six days later, when players in other positions report for duty.

The Cubs will take on the Dodgers in the Tokyo Series, so their first training session in 2025 will be the earliest: pitchers and catchers report on Feb. 9, and the team will report on Feb. 14. The pitchers and catchers of all teams will first train no later than February 13, and the whole team will practice no later than February 18.

When does the Spring Training competition start?
The Cactus League schedule kicks off on Feb. 20 with a game between the Cubs and the Dodgers, just over a month after they meet in the March 18-19 Tokyo Series. The Grapefruit League game begins a day later, with the Rays and Yankees playing in George W. George M. Steinbrenner Field, the Yankees' spring practice home but also the Rays' regular season home this year due to damage to Tropicana Field caused by Hurricane Milton.

Will the 2025 Spring Rookie Game return?
Yes! The event debuted in 2024 and included matches such as the Buccaneers' Paul Skenes vs. the Orioles' Jackson Holliday, followed by two top rookies making their major league debuts. Many of the players who competed in the inaugural tournament also made it to the major leagues that season.

Now, the Spring Rookie Game will return, taking place March 13-16 in Arizona and Florida. It will once again focus on the next generation of rookies, some of whom will soon become stars in the major leagues.
