Chen Weiyin officially announced his retirement! End of 20-year professional baseball career "Goodbye, Pitcher Hill"

The 39-year-old Chen Weiyin was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in high school, for participating in the 2002 IBA World Youth Baseball Championship against South Korea Hurricane 12K and was selected as the best pitcher of the tournament, and then entered the National Sports University after graduating from Gaoyuan Business and Commerce, and signed a contract with the Japanese professional baseball in that year, and won a total of 37 wins, 33 defeats, 14 relays and 1 rescue in Japan, with an average defense rate of 2.60, and won the defense rate king of the Central League in 2009.

Chen Weiyin joined the Orioles in 2012 with a contract of $11.383 million, becoming the first player in Taiwan's history to switch from the Japanese professional league to the major leagues, and has played for the Orioles, Miami Marlins, and Seattle Mariners in Major League Baseball, with a total of 59 wins, 51 losses, and 3 relays, with an overall defense rate of 4.18.

After being released by the Mariners in 2020, Chen Weiyin returned to Japan to join Chiba Rhodes Marine, but after switching to the Hanshin Tigers in 2022, he was designated by the Hanshin Tigers that year, and finally joined the Long Island Ducks of the Independent League in 2024, and chose to officially retire today.

In announcing his retirement, Chan reflected on his baseball journey and thanked his family, coaches, teammates and fans for supporting him along the way. Chan said, "The real challenge is not the pain, but the face of being at the top of my game."

The following is the full text of Chan's Facebook post

As a professional footballer, injuries and exhaustion are never the hardest part. The real challenge is to be honest with yourself who is no longer at the top.

After a thousand struggles, I said to my wife, "My body has reached its limit, I think it's time to retire."

She was silent for a moment, then said in her usual humorous tone:

"But I'm not ready to see you every day!"

Her words made me laugh and lightened the topic a bit. But I know it's not just a decision, it's a goodbye to the guy who used to be on the pitcher's mound and give it his all.

In fact, the children have long known that one day, their father will retire after all.

But they never asked.

Until that day, my wife asked my brother, "Do you know how many days Dad has to retire?"

He quietly looked out the car window, his eyes did not leave the distance, and then said softly:

"I don't want to know, I just know that today is better than tomorrow...... Because tomorrow will be closer to Daddy's retirement."

At that moment, my heart instantly tugged.

Perhaps for him, retirement means a change that he doesn't want to face. He doesn't really understand how the future will be different, but he knows that his father, who has been standing on the court, is getting farther and farther away from the pitcher's mound.

Finally, it's my turn to say goodbye to this journey.

I would like to thank the Nakkaichi Dragons, this team is the starting point of my career and gives me the opportunity to embark on this baseball path.

Thank you to the Baltimore Orioles for making my major league dream come true and for me to believe that I can stand on my feet in the highest halls.

Thanks to the Miami Marlins, I have the opportunity to play with Ichiro seniors.

Thanks to the Seattle Mariners for giving me the opportunity to challenge myself, and even though I didn't make it back to the big leagues, the journey was still rewarding.

Thanks to Chiba Rhodes for allowing me to return to Japan and challenge myself again in a familiar environment.

Finally, thank you Hanshin Tigers, although this journey has not been able to go further due to injury, I will always remember your sincerity and expectation.

In addition, there were many noble people who guided me and helped me on my baseball journey.

I would like to thank Coach Tu Yuguang, as well as Coach Chen Shunzai, Coach Cai Qisheng, Coach Lin Zhenxian, Coach Gong Rongtang, Senior Chen Dafeng, Supervisor Hiromi Ochiai, Coach Mori Kazushi, Senior Kwok Yuanji, Coach Shinichi Kondo, Head Coach Buck Showalter, Coach Dave Wallace, Coach Dom Chiti, and all the coaches, guards, and teammates who have coached me. Thanks to your guidance and support, I have been able to get to where I am today.

Most importantly, thank you to my family, friends and fans who have been with me along the way. Whether it is in good times or low times, you are always by my side, giving me unlimited strength and support. It is because of you that I was able to make it to the last moment of this journey.

It's been a beautiful battle, thank you to everyone who walked with me.

In my 20-year career, I gave it my all, whether it was in Japan Professional Baseball or in every game in Major League.

Thank you, baseball, for giving a child from the countryside of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the opportunity to stand on the world stage and realize his dream.

Goodbye, my pitcher mound.
