Preparing for full implementation in 2026 The electronic good ball belt system will be used in the spring training competition

During the 2024 All-Star Game, Major League President Rob Manfred announced that the 2025 Spring Training Game will introduce an Electronic Belt System (ABS) in preparation for the 2026 regular season as soon as possible, so the upcoming Spring Training Game will be officially implemented.

However, not all spring training courses have electronic band systems in place, with only five courses in the Arizona Cactus League and eight in the Grapefruit League.

Although the electronic band system has been in place for some time in the minor leagues, the major league level, including spring training games, has never been used, so data collection for this year's spring training is particularly important.

As for the rules of the Major League Spring Training tournament regarding the electronic belt system, the following are:

1. During the spring training period, each team has 2 opportunities to challenge, and if the challenge is successful, the right to challenge will be retained.

2. Only hitters, catchers, and pitchers can initiate the challenge, and the player may indicate his intention to challenge by slapping his hat or helmet immediately after the referee has made a decision.

3. The results of the challenge will be displayed on the field scoreboard, and the TV broadcaster will be able to ask if the challenge was successful.

In addition to the spring training in the major leagues, this year's minor league triple-A regular season will also fully implement the electronic belt system to collect more information.

The league officials encourage players to challenge more during spring training games, and the league believes that this system will reduce the human element of the game, including not only the referees themselves, but also the catchers who steal the ball.

In addition, the average time it takes for the electronic band system to start and finish a challenge is 17 seconds, compared to nearly 50 percent of challenges that have been reversed in the past in minor leagues, with an average of 3.9 attempts per game.

In the end, the information accumulated in the past minor leagues plus this year's major league spring training and triple-A regular season, and then discussed with players, coaches, and referees, the major league competition committee will use this as an important reference for the official implementation of the major league regular season and even playoffs in the future.
