This will be the first time that a West Asian country has hosted the Asian Winter Games. The flag handover took place at the closing ceremony of the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin. Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, head of the Saudi delegation, Minister of Sports and President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Games, received the flag from Timothy Fok, First Vice-President of the Olympic Council of Asia.

Officials and representatives from 45 Asian countries and regions attended the closing ceremony, and the official logo of the 2029 Asian Winter Games was unveiled. Inspired by the mountainous landscape of Neom, the design symbolizes the city's strength and ambition. According to the organizers, the logo takes the form of a dynamic shape that represents the energy and movement of winter sports, while the letter A represents Asia, as well as connecting the Asian Winter Games with the future vision of the region under Neom's "Future Ring" concept.

Prince Abdulaziz welcomes all participating countries and regions to Saudi Arabia and is committed to hosting an extraordinary and memorable competition. This makes Saudi Arabia a major destination for global and continental sporting events. ”

Prince Abdulaziz also thanked the Olympic Council of Asia led by Raja Landil Singh and all Asian countries for their confidence in Saudi Arabia's ability to host world-class sporting events.

At the Olympic Council of Asia General Assembly in Cambodia in October 2022, Neom was designated as the host city for the next Asian Winter Games. Saudi Arabia has put forward a multi-million dollar bid for the multi-million dollar resort of Trogina, which is located at an altitude of 2,500 meters above sea level and has sub-zero winter temperatures.

The sports complex, which could be completed in 2026, was initiated by Ben Salman as part of a national reform plan called Vision 2030. The facilities will host competitions such as alpine skiing, snowboarding, and ski mountaineering. In addition, the project will include an ice sports arena for ice hockey, figure skating and curling. The 2029 Asian Winter Games will feature a total of 47 events, including 28 snow events and 19 ice events. The 2025 Harbin Asian Winter Games, which ended, set up 6 major events, 11 sub-events, and 64 small events.
