The 2025 FIBA Three-on-Three Basketball World Cup is currently being held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. In this competition, there are 20 teams in both men's and women's categories vying for the world championship title. Both the men's and women's teams from China will compete against top teams from around the globe.

In the women's category, the Chinese team, consisting of Li Wenxia , Yang Hengyu , Zhang Wanglai and Zhou Mengyun , will compete as the top seed. In the last World Cup, the Chinese team finished fourth, but none of those players will appear in this tournament. In 2019, the Chinese women's three-on-three team defeated Hungary in the finals, winning their first World Cup championship trophy.

Yang Hengyu is the tallest player on the team and has performed excellently in the FIBA women's three-on-three series held in Chengdu and Baku this March.

Li Wenxia and Zhou Mengyun are also key players for the Chinese team in the women's series, and the players are very familiar with each other, having a high degree of teamwork. Zhang Wanglai has been part of the national team since 2021, bringing valuable experience from major competitions to the team.

According to the tournament format, the 20 teams will be divided into four groups, with five teams in each group competing in a round-robin format. The group winners will advance directly to the quarterfinals, while the second and third-place teams will participate in a knockout round to compete for the remaining four quarterfinal spots.

During the group stage, the top-seeded Chinese women's team automatically placed in Group A, facing opponents including Poland, Italy, Australia, and Madagascar. On June 23, the Chinese team debuted with a 12-21 loss to Australia, followed by a 20-12 victory over the strong European team, Italy.

In the final two rounds of the group stage, the Chinese women's team unfortunately lost to Poland 16-19, and then defeated Madagascar with a score of 22-15. Ultimately, the Chinese team finished third in the group with a record of 2 wins and 2 losses, qualifying for the knockout stage.

In the match against Poland, the Chinese team performed well initially, with Li Wenxia hitting a buzzer-beater to extend the lead to four points.

As the game progressed, Poland tied the score at 11. Li Wenxia made a breakthrough shot, and Zhou Mengyun scored inside, allowing China to regain the lead at 14-13. In the final moments, Poland drew a foul successfully and made both free throws, leading to China's unfortunate loss at 16-19.

In the last round against Madagascar, the Chinese women's team fully utilized their height advantage, focusing on scoring from above the rim. With 2 minutes and 9 seconds remaining in the game, Zhang Wanglai scored from the perimeter, sealing the victory for China at 22-15.

In terms of statistics, in the two matches, Zhou Mengyun contributed 14 points and 2 rebounds, Yang Hengyu recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds, Zhang Wanglai had 7 points and 9 rebounds, and Li Wenxia added 7 points and 7 rebounds.

On June 27, the Chinese women's team will face the second-place team from Group D in the knockout stage, competing for a spot in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, on June 26, the Chinese men's three-on-three team will play their final two group matches, facing Austria at 17:35 and France at 19:25.
