Los Angeles Dodgers' Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani has embraced the two-way player role again this season, serving as both the starting pitcher and designated hitter on the 23rd, where he hit his 26th home run in the eighth inning. According to various Japanese media reports, the viral moment of the missed home run catch involves Ryosuke Oinaka, a 43-year-old Japanese man living in the suburbs of Los Angeles, while the crying boy is his 7-year-old son, Jin-kun. In a post-game interview, Ryosuke revealed that he attended the game with his family and specifically bought seats in the home run zone in left field, hoping to catch a ball from the players.

Ryosuke Oinaka recalled seeing the ball hit by Ohtani coming toward him while thinking about his wife's warning not to extend his glove over the railing and interfere with the game. He made an effort to reach out with his glove to catch the ball but ultimately failed. As for his son Jin-kun's tears, Ryosuke explained, "While I was reaching for the ball, I accidentally bumped into my son and even instinctively pushed him away; he cried because he got hurt."

Ryosuke added that he feels very regretful for not catching the historically significant ball, as it was the first time he and his son sat in that location to watch a game. "I think I will regret it for the rest of my life." Additionally, Ryosuke revealed that his son Jin-kun is actually a devoted fan of Dodgers' Freddie Freeman, but still praised Ohtani's impressive performance, saying, "So cool!"
