The Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB) Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani has recently made a strong comeback, and regarding some external suggestions to have Ohtani take on the closer role, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts directly denied it, saying, "That situation is impossible."

Roberts pointed out that the role of a closer, which requires being ready to respond to the changing dynamics of the game at a moment's notice, is not suitable for Ohtani. "When a closer gets the call from the bullpen, they must be ready to go immediately. Given the current situation, that's not the right usage."
Ohtani made his second appearance of the season on the 23rd, also as a starting pitcher. He faced the Nationals for one inning, throwing 18 pitches, including four-seam fastballs, splitters, sliders, and a four-seam changeup, with a top speed reaching 98.8 mph (about 159 km/h). He did not allow any hits or runs, recorded two strikeouts, and lowered his ERA to 4.50.
