Hong Peiwen's mother is Taiwanese, and her father is American. She is currently enrolled at NCAA Division 1 Lehigh University, where she has played 31 games this season, averaging 4.1 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. She is very excited and looking forward to the opportunity to return to Taiwan to play this year.
Hong Peiwen's mother appeared at a press conference on the 24th and was interviewed in Chinese. She smiled and said, “Hong Peiwen loves Taiwan, and her grandparents are also very happy that she has this opportunity to represent Taiwan in competition. I am very proud and grateful that Peiwen can play for Taiwan.”
The training team coach Lin Jiyuan revealed that Hong Peiwen recently trained with the team in Japan. "Peiwen has a great attitude and excellent basketball IQ. Right now, it's about getting familiar with each other's playing styles, and due to language barriers, body language communication on the court has become very important."
It is understood that Hong Peiwen holds a Taiwanese passport, but it is currently unclear whether she obtained it before the age of 16. If she intends to wear the Chinese Taipei team jersey for international competitions in the future, she will still be considered a naturalized player.
This year's Jones Cup Universiade training team consists of players such as You Qinhua, Song Ruizhen, Xiao Yuwin, and Hong Peiwen. Lin Jiyuan hopes that these young players can gain experience from the Jones Cup and learn from the senior members of the Chinese Taipei blue team, striving for good results in the upcoming 2025 World University Games in Germany.
