The success rate of service games became the turning point in the match, as Hsieh Su-wei and Zhang Shuai missed out on the finals of the 2025 Nottingham grass court tournament.

On the 21st local time, Taiwan's star Hsieh Su-wei and her Chinese partner Zhang Shuai were defeated 7-5, 4-6, 4-10 by Japan's Shibahara Ena and Kazakhstan's Danilina in the semifinals of the 2025 Nottingham grass court women's tournament, thus missing the chance to compete for the title.

Hsieh Su-wei teamed up with Zhang Shuai in March this year, and they reached the women's doubles semifinals at the WTA 1000 Indian Wells tournament. Now, they have teamed up again as the top seeds in this WTA 250 grass court event.

In this match, the "Japan-Kazakhstan alliance" of Shibahara Ena and Danilina exchanged breaks with Hsieh and Zhang in the first set, with Hsieh and Zhang breaking successfully in the crucial 12th game to take the lead. After being broken in the second set, the match was interrupted for about 30 minutes due to heavy rain. Upon resuming, Hsieh and Zhang could not break their opponents' serve, leading to the match being leveled.

In the deciding set, Hsieh and Zhang failed to capitalize on their service games, allowing their opponents to score six consecutive points. Shibahara and Danilina dropped only one point on their seven serves, and their success rate on service games became the decisive factor in the match.
