In 2024, FINA conducted 1,572 in-competition and out-of-competition doping tests on athletes in six sports, including swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, water polo, open water and high platform diving, and the top 32 in the list of tests were all Chinese athletes.
Tang Qianting, the gold medallist in the women's 100m breaststroke at last year's World Championships and a silver medalist at the Paris Olympics, was tested 38 times, the highest of any athlete. The rest of the tests were Qin Haiyang (35), Lu Ying and Dong Zhihao (34), Ye Shiwen, Yu Yiting and Fei Liwei (33), Wang Shun (32), Pan Zhanle (31), and Zhang Yufei, Li Bingjie and Xu Jiayu (30).
According to calculations, Chinese athletes received an average of 21 tests per person and received "special care". In terms of athletes from other countries and regions, the three U.S. women were tested the most, with Reagan Smith leading the way with 22, Kate Douglas with 20 and Gretchen Walsh with 20. Marchand and McIntosh, who have both been named FINA Male and Female Athlete of the Year, are 16 times.
