With Malaysia's 21-year-old Alpine skier Aruwin finishing fourth in the women's slalom at the 2025 Asian Winter Games in Harbin, setting the country's best result in history, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has considered providing her with additional financial support. On Saturday, Aruwin finished fourth in the women's slalom at the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, with a time of 1:36.74, just 1.82 seconds behind the bronze medallist.
With Aruwin finishing fourth in the women's slalom at this year's Asian Winter Games, the Youth Sports Department will consider providing her with additional financial support.
This also means that Aruwen, who qualified for the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022, has the ability to reach the podium in international competitions. "This will depend on the special budget that the National Sports Council has previously received from the Ministry of Finance, and the Malaysian Olympic Council has asked the MC to consider whether it can provide her with additional funding as she finished fourth in the Asian Winter Games, and perhaps she will be able to stand on the podium in the future with more support," said Minister Yeo Hau Shuang.
"The Council is weighing this up, and our budget is not inexhaustible, and the Treasury sets the budget every year. Therefore, we need to think carefully and plan carefully, and our special budget last year prioritised the payment of EPF contributions for all athletes. ”
Earlier, the president of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, Tan Sri Nosa, congratulated Aruwin and promised her that he would apply for additional financial support from the Youth Sports Department to help her qualify for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, as well as the 2029 Asian Winter Games.
