The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is once again interested in changing the format from the current 21 points in three games to 15 points in three games, and based on the test results, it is likely that a vote will be held at the BWF Annual General Meeting in April 2026.

The BWF Council meeting approved a proposal for a three-inning, 15-point (21-point cap) format as the first choice for the new format, which will be tested and evaluated at the Continental Championships, BWF Grade 3 events (International Challenge, International Series, Future Series), national and international leagues and national championships in April, September and October this year.
BWF has put forward the idea of reforming the competition system in the past, hoping to change the current 3-game 21-point system to 5-game 11-point system, but the number of votes did not reach the threshold of two-thirds.
